Along with all the colors listed below, you can also have a variation of all colors by adding "Black Markings, Black Mask, Tan Markings, White Markings" to any of the colors, which goes to show you no two Shih Tzu's are exactly alike. Each puppy has a unique, distinct color all their own. Most Shihtzu puppies lighten with age; the color you see on a puppy is rarely the color you will see an adult.

AKC Shih Tzu puppies come in many different colors, ranging from black to white, liver, red, blonde, chocolate, gray, lavender, blue. So many colors; I just love them all. Along with all that beautiful color comes the best personality. What a perfect companion the Shihtzu is. Shih Tzu's come from a long line of royalty. For the Chinese, they have been cherished house dogs for over a thousand years. One could not ask for a better lap dog to snuggle with while watching television in the evening or reading a good book on a rainy day.
Some believe there is no such thing as an Imperial Shih Tzu. The word Imperial has been adopted by some breeders to describe smaller Shih Tzu puppies. According to the now non-existent Chinese Imperial Dog Registry, a Chinese Imperial dog is 3 to 9 lbs. If your looking for a smaller dog, ask about the expected adult weight, instead of using words like Imperial that can be interpreted differently by different people.
